Jon Krakauer
Jon Krakauer wrote into thin air to recount what happened on Everest during the 1996 snowstorm disaster. Jon went to Everest for Outside magazine to capture the event of this large party climbing Everest. He was originally only supposed to climb up to base camp, but he decided that he wanted to summit the mountain. During the climb the weather worsened by the time they reached the summit of the mountain, and were unable to get down. Jon and a few others managed to get down the mountain.
After writing book Jon faced controversy because of his criticize of Boukreev, who saved three climbers. Many people thought that his betrayal of Boukreev was to harsh and did not acknowledge his acts enough. Jon criticize was based on him thinking that Boukreev took unnecessary risks during his rescue trip. Jon has done several interview about the event after publishing the book. He has said in numerous interview that climbing Everest was the worst decision he has ever made, and he wishes he could go back in time and reverse it. |
